Dinesty Burnaby - Visit #2!

One thing you guys probably don't know about me is that I'm a TOTAL homebody/introvert. I'm pretty sure I'm the most grandma-like 20 year old you'll ever meet. While most humans my age spend their free time socializing, drinking (I'm generalizing here) and partaking in the joys of recreational drug use (don't get offended, I have nothing against weed) I would much rather stay at home and pour over a good novel, scour for antiques at a thrift store, or go for some food (solo.)

I rarely meet up with friends outside of school (but that's not to say I don't have friends...harhar.) So on the rare occasion that I do meet up with a friend, it seems like a treat. The other day I went to Dinesty with my friend Julie (hi Julie if you're reading this!) We thought it was pretty funny that we were going to Dinesty, because Julie is Shanghainese/Taiwanese, and Dinesty is a Shanghainese/Taiwanese restaurant!!

Given that I was eating with another person, I thought that it would be a good idea to keep my food consumption to a minimum. So instead of over ordering (like I always do at Dinesty) I only ordered two dishes!! *Pats self on back.*

Simmer Cauliflower with Chinese Spinach & Mushroom $10.95
Julie is vegan, so she got this!!
4/5 stars

One of the main reasons we went to Dinesty was because of the plethora of vegan dishes they offer!! The description didn't sound too exciting, but this was surprisingly delicious!! It wasn't bland at all, in fact, it was super flavourful! The spinach flavour was strong, and the mushroom added a nice woodiness to the entire dish.

Deep Fried Tofu Pudding
4/5 stars

Julie had this dish to herself, and she thoroughly enjoyed it! She remarked that the tofu was flavourful and that she could really taste the bits of cilantro on top! The pieces of tofu were smooth and jiggly!

Green Onion Pancake
3/5 stars

I attempted to order this at Dinesty Aberdeen a few months ago, but the waitress kicked me out (I went over their time limit) before I had the chance :'(

This was decent. The flavours were there, but the pancake itself was flat and uninspiring (read: not crispy enough.)

Shrimp & Pork Sui Mai
3.5/5 stars

I've tried this exact dish at Din Tai Fung and Dinesty definitely pales in comparison. The one at Dinesty isn't bad though, the pork was juicy and reasonably flavourful. The shrimp on top was actually a whole shrimp!

  2. "Given that I was eating with another person, I thought that it would be a good idea to keep my food consumption to a minimum." LMAO Selina I love your logic...

I think you and I are the only people who like to dine solo. I mean, we get to have table to ourself to place the dishes at an optimal angle before taking photos, right?

    1. hahaha totally logical right?! ;)

LMAO...EXACTLY!!! Cause placing dishes at an optimal angle before taking a photo is a *priority* :D

    2. "I think you and I are the only people who like to dine solo."

He's making a move, Selina, albeit in the most subtle, reverse-psychology sort of way ;-) (high 5, Raymond !)

    3. OMG I'm dying... [insert crying and laughing emoji]

  3. Hey Selina, which Din Tai Fung did you go to? Bellevue? Or the ones in Taiwan?

    1. Hi Jojamon! I went to the original Din Tai Fung in Taipei!! :D
